Gary’s knowledge of the neuse river and the fisheries in it amazes me. He is a very passionate fisherman and charter guide. Gary is a friend of mine and a inspriation when it comes to fishing. He has taught me alot just by listening to him talk. If you want a professional charter service give him a call. You wont be disappointed.
Gary,
The pleasure was all ours. It was awesome getting into the fish and your ability to find them was remarkable. It was great to catch enough fish to need a break! Top water striper action is quite possibly the most fun I’ve ever had fishing. I look forward to scheduling another trip with you in the future.

Thanks again, you’re a great guide and your patience with two inept fishers was admirable.

Stripers and redfish; what a day!!

simmsrock

jimbigrockI had Charlie and Jim out for 2 full days this weekend. Yesterday was as tough as it gets. Today was a good as it gets! Stripers on top water just like on TV this weekend….well better with fish to 31 inches! I’m guess around 40 top water bites on fly and plugs. We also landed about 25 redfish to 24 inches. Charlie, my fly angler caught a speck as well for the slam. Jim’s 1st striper, first redfish, first speck, biggest fish and most fish in a day!! I’m open this week and coming weekend!

maybassMichelle and I have been fishing the weekend. We managed to catch a pretty big variety of fish in two half days. The best of it has been the redfishing but top water stripers are always a blast! In all we caught spotted seatrout, red drum, largemouth bass, striper bass, flounder, yellow perch and gar.  We’ve got plenty of great fishing coming up and plenty of open dates so drop us a line or give us a call to set up your trip with Spec Fever.

Giant Redfish on light tackle

coreydrum secondpair julyspecks bigred captgary celldrum chellhookedup flattyThinking about a fishing trip this summer? Have you landed a 40 plus inch redfish on light tackle? Well how about giving that a try. Last summer we boated 57 red drum over 40 inches and as large as 51 inches on light tackle. Unlike the traditional late summer bait fishing this light tackle season starts in June. Book an open date in June or July by May 25th and you can take $100 off the full day. Use code BIGRED when you email or call with your deposit.
In addition to a shot at a redfish of a life time, we’ll be catching reds, specks and flounder.  Our traditional bait fishing season for giant redfish starts in August and runs through September.  We landed  hundreds redfish over 40 inches in 2012 and we’re looking for the same in 2013.  Contact us soon for the best avaialbe dates.  Call Capt. Gary at 252-249-1520 or email us today at info@specfever.com

Red hot top water striper bite!

glennrockWe’ve had a red hot top water striper bite this week and we’re catching specks and redfish as well. This is from my client today…
“Gary,

Just wanted to say thank you for the info you gave us today and Dad and I had a lot of fun. Probably missed many fish for not listening on how to work rods and bait but we really appreciate the knowledge you shared with us. When we get back down I will send a quick note to let you know how your training prepared us for a day by ourselves. Dad was wondering if we can get a copy of the pic sent with his Rock fish.

Glenn”

Top water stripers!

aftforock revgaryrockWe had a very good top water striper bite this Saturday in New Bern and that fishing is really heating up!
Fished this morning (in the rain) closer to New Bern. Very nice striper bite. The fish were not eating top water lures; boiling on them. So I went to the new DOA Airhead and they were crushing it! I fished it on a TFO GTS tactical spinning rod “shakey head” model #GTS SHS6103-1. A perfect match! Get both a your local tackle dealer today!!

We’re also catching specks, redfish and largemouth bass!

Updated openings:  May 4, 11, 14-21, 28-30

Fishing report April 22

jackspeckWe’ve had several more excellent days of speck fishing out of Oriental this past week including another release citation fish, this one on top water. It looks like the stripers are starting to move back down river on the Neuse, so look for the top water bite to go off there over the next several weeks. Keep in mind the keeper season closes April 30, but we’ll have plenty of catch and release action with some specks in the area if you want a couple fish for the table. Redfishing is getting better. Look for plenty of redfish action in May and June. Big bluefish are at the beach with Spanish soon to follow. Let me know if you’d like a day out of Beaufort.
I have April 24, 29 and 30, May 4, 11, 14-16, 18-21, 23, 24 and 28-31 open. I hope to see you soon!
