early season fishing shad

By late Feb and early March shad have move into the Neuse River and we'll be fishing for them in the Neuse River above New Bern. Mostly hickory shad, but a few Americans as well, this fishing can be a great way to shake off the winter. The area is beautiful with cypress line shores and well protected from any weather. We fish ultra light and fly.

March is also a good time for stripers on the Neuse above New Bern. The fish are moving up river to spawn and will stage in areas of the river not far from the shad. This can be pretty good fishing. Big cats can be tangled with as well. Cut bait in can get you into some jumbos and again is in the same areas of the Neuse just up stream from New Bern.
