Saltwater fly patterns

Custom saltwater flies

Below you'll find many of my original saltwater fly patterns. These flies are very effective on many differnt species of fish. You can find many of the patterns published in books and magazines by authors like Lefty Kreh, David Klausmeyer, Joel Arrington and Beau Beasley and in two volumes of the Federation of Fly Fishers "Patterns of the Masters". If you're interested in any or all of these patterns please give me a shout or drop me an email.

Lil'hadden

The lil'hadden was designed to catch speckled seatrout on the Neuse River. It has become one of my favorite and most effective fly patterns and it has taken redfish, flounder, striped bass, weakfish, bluefish, spanish mackerel, bonita, false albacore and largemouth bass here in NC. Outside the area size variations of the pattrn have also taken a variety of fresh and saltwater fish including snook and tarpon.

Lil'chovy

A color variation of the lil'hadden, this fly pattern is just as effective as the original.

Finesse Fly

The Finesse fly got its origins from a fly I originally tied for a trip to Marhta's Vineyard. I placed EZ body tubing over black bucktail to create a slender profiled baitfish pattern. From that point, I made the fly swim better by wrapping lead wire on the shaft of the fly and changing colors and sizes to match the fishing situation I was in. The fly is durable and deadly. It has taken 18 differnt species of fish. Although simular in appereance to Popvich's Surf Candy, the finesse fly remains easier to tie and swims more like the "Jiggy".
The Finesse fly has appeared in books, magazines and televission. You can see its latest appearence in the June/July 2005 issue of Saltwater Fly Fishing Mgazine.

Finesse Fly Glass Minnow

Unlike the Silversides (pictured above) the glass minnow is tyed with synthetic materials. It is one on my best false albacore patterns and works well on many simular species of salt water game fish. It even fished well on the coast of Ireland.

Close to the original and a great night pattern for striped bass.

Finesse Fly Sand Eel

Another color variation on the Finesse Fly series, this is a great cold water striper fly. If the sand eels are around this is a great imitation.
