Capt. Gary guides out of a 22 feet K2 Marine Frontier
Capt. Gary has never meet a fish he doesn't like! He grew up fishing lakes for pan-fish and bass, the streams of Pennsylvania for trout and the beaches and piers of NC and NJ. He has a passion for both fly fishing and artifical lure fishing on spinning rods. He has fished most of the East and Gulf Coasts and states west to the Mississippi, a chunk of the west, Alaska, the Caribbean, Ontario, Ireland and Poland. He enjoys sharing his knowledge and experience. If you have questions or need a speaker for any event feel free to drop him a line!
Over 16 years experience as a fishing guide and an expert with both fly and light tackle fishing.
Capt. Gary's passion for fishing brought him to North Carolina in the late 1980's. Starting his fishing charter, "Spec Fever" because of his love of speckled seatrout fishing. Moving from the Outer Banks to the Neuse River, Gary adding redfish, stripers, false albacore and so many other species to the Spec Fever hit list.
Always looking to improve his techniques, Gary pioneered the popping cork craze for NC giant red drum, turning what was a night time bait fishery into a day time artificial lure fishery. Progressing that one step further, Gary invented the Pop-N-Fly rig and revolutionized fly fishing for these giant reds.
Capt. Gary has written and lectured on both light tackle and fly fishing and he has appeared on a number of angling shows on ESPN 2, WFN, UNC-TV, NBC Sports, the Sportsman Channel and Discovery Channel (Europe). He is a frequent speaker at local and national fishing shows including the Saltwater Sportsman's National Seminar Series, the Fly Fishing Show and the Virginia Fly Fishing Festival. He has also been featured in many major sports fishing magazines and in several books.
a few words from clients.....
"I had to say thank you again for yesterday, I don't know if I will ever have a day better than that. (Can't wait to get out and try to better it though!!)
I also wanted to say thank you for what you have taught me on the water this spring. I have learned a lot, and I know it has made me a better fisherman. I'm nowhere close to being a pro yet, but I am picking up techniques and baits that I am becoming more and more confident in. In addition, I'm learning a lot about reading the water and the conditions to help maximize any opportunities I get. Gary, you are a very good teacher, and I am looking forward to next time to learn that much more.
You have quickly become a trusted friend, and I think I appreciate that more than anything.
See you next time out!!! " Stu Creighton
"Thanks very much for helping me get three generations of Greene men together for a fun time on Friday. It was more than just a fun time fishing Specs; it was a chance for me to spend quality time with my Dad and my son. I want my son to be interested in fishing and conservation, and I don't think I could have asked for a better time. My Dad gave me that gift, and you helped me give it to my son. We look forward to next time.” Geoff Greene,
“Capt. Gary - a great day - thanks for showing us the "right" tackle, technique and place to catch fish......it was fun, fun, fun and an education to say the least - best fishing day I have had on the Neuse ever!!!” Harvey
